Subscribe: Two NFL coordinators appear to be the front runners for the Denver Broncos head coaching vacancy, Kyle Shanahan and Vance Joseph. Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak officially announced that he was retiring from the NFL, and from coaching today, January 2nd 2017. This news came as a surprise to the Broncos organization and president Joe Ellis. Both Gary Kubiak and John Elway spoke at today’s press conference. Kubiak made it clear that he is retiring for personal reasons, and the demands of the job are no longer a good fit for him. Kubiak thanked his family, John Elway, owner Pat Bowlen, and pretty much everyone he ever worked with all while fighting back tears. A quote from the presser includes, "This decision is strictly my decision, based on what I've been through this year and how I'm feeling," Kubiak said. "I just feel like it's time for me to do something different. Now, I'm retiring from coaching, I'm getting out of coaching, but I've got a lot to give and I'm going to find something else to do ... but it's time for me to step away from the coaching field." John Elway stated that Kubiak asked to speak to him as a friend, and as much as Elway wanted Kubiak to stay he respects his decision. The Broncos now have to replace Kubiak and have already asked to interview Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, son of former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan. The other name being thrown around like a football is Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who coached with Wade Phillips in Houston. Wade Phillips currently is waiting to see if the Broncos re-sign him as his contract is expiring, and John Elway and Joe Ellis have been in contract talks to extend Elway’s position as GM for months now. The only thing that is certain in Denver right now is that the defense will be good again. Keep ThatsGoodSports Alive with Patreon: Buy ThatsGoodSports Stuff! Watch More: Twitter: Facebook: Instagram:
